Birdwatching opportunities peak in the dry season, while the wet season (June to October) transforms the landscape into lush greenery, offering a quieter and more affordable experience, despite occasional rain.

Most travellers choose to stay along the coast in areas like Kololi, Kotu, or the Senegambia strip, where you'll find numerous hotels, restaurants, and the Bijilo Forest Park monkey reserve. Popular day trips include visits to Banjul, the capital; the fishing village of Tanji; and inland excursions to Abuko Nature Reserve and the River Gambia National Park. For those seeking adventure, longer itineraries can take you into Senegal's Casamance region or across the border into Guinea-Bissau.
